Study questions include:

  • How do children who attend DEL programs (including ECEAP, ESIT, ECLIPSE, and Subsidized childcare) perform on WaKIDS kindergarten entry assessment? How do they compare both demographically and on kindergarten readiness to children from entering kindergarten who do not attend DEL programs, both those from low-income households and those who are not from low-income households?
  • How might DEL programmatic kindergarten readiness data contribute to DEL future performance-based contracts?
  • What is the kindergarten readiness trajectory of those children who attend ECEAP from Fall of their ECEAP year, to Spring of their ECEAP year, to kindergarten entry?
  • What is the impact of different levels of dosage of ECEAP on kindergarten readiness – full day vs. part-day, 2 years vs. 1 year?
  • What portion of entering kindergarteners have participated in any DEL programs prior to kindergarten entry? What portion participate in multiple DEL programs prior to kindergarten entry? What is the demographic and spatial makeup of children from low-income households who participate in multiple of DEL programs compared with those who participate in 0 or 1 DEL programs?
  • What factors contribute to readiness drop-off (that is when children are ready for kindergarten by their Spring ECEAP Teaching Strategies GOLD (TS-GOLD) assessment but not ready in Fall WaKIDS assessment), including child-level demographic factors, socioeconomic status of household, categorical program participation, and geographic factors such as area of the state, school district, school building.
  • What factors contribute to kindergarten readiness as measured by WaKIDS Fall scores, including child-level demographic factors, socioeconomic status of household, categorical program participation, and geographic factors such as area of the state, school district, school building.
  • Are children who attend ECEAP full day or extended day more likely to present as ready for kindergarten in the fall by WaKIDS assessment than children attending ECEAP but not attending full or extended day? Than non-ECEAP children from low-income households?
  • Are there geographic patterns of more or less availability of DEL programs that appear to contribute to kindergarten readiness among children from low-income households across school districts?
