The recent development of statewide assessments for use in high school has sparked interest in whether these assessments might be useful for making college admissions and course placement decisions. The Smarter Balanced assessments became operational in 2014-2015, and include English and mathematics tests for grade 11 high school students. For the following reasons, an increasing number of states have concluded that Smarter Balanced high school tests show particular promise for making college admissions and placement decisions.
